Orthoclear sells to Align

September 28th, 2006 · 1 Comment

Align Technology’s stock opened up 50% this morning. This is on Orthoclear’s web site:

“Dear OrthoClear Doctors and Patients,

Today, OrthoClear announced that Align Technology - the makers of Invisalign® - has purchased OrthoClear’s intellectual property, including the company’s extensive patent portfolio related to the manufacturing of clear, removable aligners.

As part of this agreement, Align has committed to complete treatment of all current OrthoClear cases at no charge to the treating doctor.  This includes cases in the United States, Canada, and Hong Kong.

Doctors may contact Align directly at 888-822-5446 to discuss the status of their cases.

Sincerely,

The OrthoClear Team”

Can anyone say “Monopoly”? What ever happened to the laws that made it illegal to limit competition? As far as I know, it was never proven that Orthoclear used any of Align’s technology. Orthoclear is saying they could no longer manage the legal costs of all the law suits Align had brought against them. Does anyone know the truth?
