I just tried these one step sectional matrixes and absolutely love them. They have the clamp, sectional matrix and wedge in one preassembled unit. Very fast and easy to place. I cannot imagine practicing dentistry without the aid of magnification and illumination. I started with 2.0x flip ups and have worked my way up to the 4.8x through the lens fixed magnification. It is unbelievable what you can see that you could not see with the naked eye. I use a pair of loupes from Orascoptic. I augment them with the Zeon Illuminator, a miniature high-intensity fiber-optic light that brightly illuminates anything you are looking at. Extreme Makeover, The Swan, magazine articles, news clips, etc. are raising awareness of what dentistry can do for the population at large. We need to market to the increased interest. This is best done with a well positioned web site. Next comes print, radio, and television.

We have had many different phone systems in our office over the years. Some have cost a small fortune. This little device is a “must have” for a dental practice recall system. All occlusal surfaces can be evaluated for hidden decay an explorer will not find. I have never found it to be wrong. It works like this. You move the laser tip over the occlusal surface pits and fissures. The unit will give you a two digit reading. I treat everything 40 and over.

The unit works by measuring fluorescence. Un decayed enamel and denting does not fluorescess. Decay does.

This product has evolved over the past 17 years and now has a place in most all dental practices. The old criticism’s of fit and esthetics areno longer an issue. Cerec I and II were basically inlay and onlay making machines. The 3D with the just released software upgrade allows you to make beautifil crowns in about an hour. The contacts and occlusion are near perfect when taken to the mouth. Depending on your lab fee, it takes about a dozen units a month to cover the lease payment.

If you could hire a lab technician for $2000 a month for five years and pay him $25 for each crown, then at the end of the five years, just pay him $25 a crown, would you? Number 4 to the right was done by a lab. Number five is a CEREC unit with polish only. No stain and glaze and start to finish in under an hour.
