Top 25 Dental Products - Oraqix needle free anestheiic

July 31st, 2005 · 6 Comments

OraqixWhat are the most dreaded words you can hear from your hygienist when you are in the middle of something?  “Doctor, I need a hygiene check, or Doctor, I need anesthesia for my patient.”  This product will not help with the first question, but it has just about eliminated the second one in my practice.  Oraqix (2.5% Lidocaine and 2.5% Prilocaine) is a subgingival anesthetic gel that is indicated for scaling and root planing.  It has a unique dispenser that allows your hygienist to inject the liquid gel into the periodontal pocket.  Once in the pocket, the material gels so it stays put.  Onset is in 30 seconds and lasts up to 20 minutes.

i orders oraquix and used it with several patients. results were marginal at best.

My biggest complaint is i never received and follow up with oraquix and/or reorder information. which to me is important when promoting a new product.

We purchased the starter kit at the NY meeting. I’ve read so much literature and feedback that I feel comfortable enought to begin using it. My employer is concerned about the cost. I tell him just the time we save not needing him to come in and patients not needing the injection will make it worth it. Have you used Oraquix for the full quadrant? Does that require more than one application? Have you used it on milder quads (5mm pockets) and more severe (6-8mm pockets) and had similar anesthesia? I’d love some feedback!

I haven’t had to numb a patient for soft tissue therapy since we started using Oraquix. It is a huge time saver. This far outweigh’s the cost.

a reaction from the netherlands (holland) on Oraqix:

details on this marvelous addition to anaestetic possibilities can be found at http://www.oraqix.com.

respons in the netherlands is as expected very possitive, as it provides a marvelous medical support the acceptance of unfriendly but necessary periodontal therapy.

i.e. this is THE patientfriendly innovation in the field of SRP.

    Cetacaine an Alternative to Oraqix
Cetacaine Topical Anesthetic has been available for years. It has full onset within thirty seconds, a duration of thirty minutes or more, can be applied by multiple sterile instruments and is significantly less expensive than Orqix. I am continually amazed at the high acceptance of Cetacaine by the Dental Community when they realize what it is and what it can do for the patient, Hygienist, Dentist and its ease of use.
