Don’t knock the VerticalMouse 3 because it doesn’t sport a kooky, odd façade like its ergonomic rivals. Evoluent’s sequel to the VerticalMouse 2 boasts an improved design and several new features, making it a very capable mouse in the hands of all types of users. The VerticalMouse 3 (VM3 for short) from Evoluent looks like a regular mouse turned 90 degrees clockwise. It orients your hand in a vertical, handshake position. The idea is to allow your arm to control the mouse in a more natural position, with the thumb up, as opposed to the not-as-healthy pronated position where the palms are facing down, like when you’re typing on a keyboard. Some doctors who specialize in ergonomics consider the vertical position preferable. And because the VM3 resembles a regular mouse, there’s no sharp learning curve when you start using it. This was something were able to vouch for after our experience with the VerticalMouse 2.
Some ergonomic mice do nothing more than to satisfy the bare necessities; in most cases this means two buttons and a scroll wheel. That’s not the case with the VM3. The mouse features four buttons, a clicky scroll wheel, four DPI modes (up to 2600 dpi) that can be switched on-the-fly, and software with several levels of customization. The VM3 retails for a cool $80 (Evoluent offers a lefty version of the VerticalMouse 2 for the same price).

Windows offers the Startup folder, which lets you specify tasks or applications to execute at start-up or log-on. Is there an equivalent for shutdown or logoff? I would like to copy some files I update during the day to a network location before I log off and go home at night. —
A: You can find a variety of small utilities that will automate tasks at shutdown, but for a straightforward task like the one you’ve described, you really don’t need them. Just create a simple batch file to copy the updated files and end it with a command that shuts down the computer. You just have to remember to end your session by launching this batch file rather than by tapping the power button or shutting down via the Start menu.

Dentists know that an enlarged view of the operative field enables both higher quality and faster treatment. Most have recognized and are now familiar with the advantages of using a stereoscopic microscope for applications where loupes do not provide sufficient magnification.A stereo microscope allows you to judge depth and vary the level of magnification to the task at hand. Unfortunately, it also affects the way you work because it is required to be between you and the patient, limiting your field of view and limiting your choice of postures. To address these issues, StereoImaging has developed the DentiMag3D™. Using our proprietary stereoscopic digital camera technology, we have developed a stereo video zoom microscope for use in dental surgery and procedures. The DentiMag3D™ is ideal for sharing the image with multiple users, students, or the patient, where everyone has depth perception! The DentiMag3D™ does not attach to your current optical microscope, but provides a complete and comprehensive replacement for it, upgrading your surgical suite to a fully digital environment.

The following comes from a great new newsletter from TNT Dental [1].
Search engine optimization can place your Website in front of innumerable potential patients – but you probably already know that. You may also know that SEO involves choosing and integrating keywords into your Website, among other things.
For instance, if you’re a dentist in Dallas that offers cosmetic services, you can optimize your site for terms like Dallas cosmetic dentist, cosmetic dentist Dallas, Texas, or Dallas veneers

According to press releases Henry Schein has made an offer to purchase a New Zealand dental software company called “Software of Excellence”. Software of Excellence has over 5,000 users and is the largest supplier of dental software in Australia and New Zealand. In the US they have been used mostly by larger clinics and multi office groups.
I do not believe this news will affect the typical dental user in the US. It may provide additional options for large group practices and it will give Schein a greater presence in Europe and down Under.
